Finances: F-Word #5

#Finances

/fī-nans/ noun money or other liquid resources; the science or study of the management of funds; the obtaining of funds or capital

Ah..... Finances! Let's talk about MONEY!

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Finances and money? Is it positive? Is it negative? Is it connected to hope and knowing you can amass your financial wealth beyond your wildest imagination? Or is it like the majority of people and attached to fear, hopelessness, anger, and resentment?

Is money simply energy that is infinitely abundant and a means to help others, including yourself? Or is money the root of all evil?

If you are less than satisfied with your financial status, we must start with your Money Mindset FIRST before we begin with your bank account.

I’ve already asked you a series of questions to reflect on. So if you haven’t already, grab a pen and paper and answer a few more questions:

  • What do I believe about money?
  • What was I told to believe about money while I was growing up (from your parents, your church, your community, your grandparents, your culture)?
  • Do you believe that money is simply energy and can be either manifested OR limited by your thoughts, in conjunction with your actions?

If you answered no to the last question above, ask yourself: Am I open to learning more about the principles of money and finances? If so, read on!

If you answered yes to the last question above, YAY! The first step has been taken and now it’s time to take it to the next level. So, read on!

Your state of wealth, or not, is the state of your mindset and beliefs. NOT the state of your bank account. I know when the bank account is less than stellar, or even has less than $20 so you can’t even make an ATM withdrawal and payday is still 2 days away, it is very hard to swallow that your mindset has ANY thing to do with your finances. Ask me how I know.

It’s a true story that when I was in my LATE 20’s, I had less than $20 in my bank account and couldn’t withdraw any cash with payday still 2 days away. I will always be grateful to the co-worker who loaned me $20 so I could eat and get gas to get to work. Here I was, I had a Masters Degree, I had moved 3000 miles away from home when I was 21, I had a really good solid job that was related to my career, and yet I was in debt beyond belief and I just couldn’t keep up.

I had never been a big spender. However, once I started working I was enjoying more income than I ever had as a poor college student and then poor graduate student. Add to the mix, I had been in a relationship with a woman much older than me and the bottom line was that I had been trying to keep up with her level of income and expenditures. That was no fault of hers. That was all me and my insecurities to “match” her and not seem inadequate. When she indeed did not expect anything of the sort.

A few years later, I had to file bankruptcy because I legitimately could not keep up with the thousands and thousands of dollars of credit card debt. I was so embarrassed and humiliated and truly felt like a loser and a failure.

However, now over 15 years later, I am so grateful I went through that experience. It was not the end of my financial life, it was truly the beginning. I started researching and learning everything I could about financial mindset and creating more wealth. I came to realize and believe that money is ENERGY and that meant it was INFINITE! I started doing mindset “experiments” and was astonished at what I could manifest - like 3 “random” checks that I received in the mail in about a 6 week period, when I started using the first affirmation in the list at the end of this blog.

So why do I share this? Because I want you to know, regardless of the state of my bank account currently, I GET IT! The pain that can be experienced by lack of financial resources. That’s why I want you to get started TODAY with your MONEY MINDSET. That’s where it all begins. Between your ears, not in your checking account.

Use one of the affirmations below, modify them to make them yours, or write you own new belief on your relationship with money. Just do it now! Write it on a post-it and tack it on your bathroom mirror, on your refrigerator, or on the dash of your car. Somewhere you can see it multiple times every day. Say it out loud! With passion! Have fun with it. Feel silly, it’s okay. When you have more Abundance in your life and in your bank account, it won’t feel so silly then, will it?

We will talk much more on tangible tools and actions you can take to increase your financial abundance in future trainings. For now, FOCUS on the FIRST step: your money mindset.

Abundance Affirmations:

  • I am so blessed and grateful that money flows easily to me, continuously, in increasing amounts.
  • My financial wealth continues to grow because I love and honor myself and I deserve it.
  • I am so grateful to have more financial resources so that I can give more.
  • I am ready to begin my life of abundance by first practicing an abundant mindset.
